2024 Trend Forecast

Happy New Year! As we look ahead to 2024, there are several exciting trends in interior design we’re expecting to take center stage. Here's our forecast:

Organic textures aren’t going anywhere!

I've noticed an increased appreciation for cozy, textural, calming spaces over the past year. I think this is largely a response to growing mental health awareness and the enormous effect interiors can have on your wellbeing. Finding pieces that are not only functional and beautiful but put you at ease - whether a textural sheepskin lounge chair or an oversized heavyweight linen throw - can be transformative in the way you move throughout your daily life. I don’t expect the coziness factor to go anywhere in 2024!

Upgrading Minimalism to Thoughtful Simplicity

Minimalism has been a prominent trend in interior design over the past few years, and it's here to stay in 2024. However, this time around, minimalism will be more about intentionality. Instead of stark, sterile spaces, the focus will be on thoughtful simplicity. Think curated collections of meaningful objects, a blend of clean and organic lines, and a balance between functionality and aesthetics. This approach creates spaces that are visually pleasing while still offering a sense of calm and serenity.

Bold Marble Takes Center Stage

In 2024, we’re expecting bold veined marble to continue its rise in popularity. We’re loving the way this looks paired with other organic materials throughout a home.

Hello, Dark Wood Tones!

Light oak tones have been all the rage over the past few years, but we’re expecting a big shift in 2024. Hello, darker wood tones! We’re talking rich, dark brown oaks and walnuts (not the red cherry wood of the past.)

Brown, brown, brown

I’m forecasting 2024 will be the year of BROWN! Deep, chocolate browns with rich, warm tones will be paired with beiges and warm whites. Goodbye, gray - there’s a new kid on the block.

Sustainable Materials: Embracing Nature’s Gift

In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly practices. In 2024, this trend will continue to gain momentum in the world of interior design. We are all about it at KSI! Expect to see a surge in the use of sustainable materials such as reclaimed wood, bamboo, cork, and recycled glass. These materials not only add a touch of natural beauty to your space but also contribute to a healthier planet. Maximizing natural light will continue to be a big trend. Large windows, skylights, and open floor plans help to bring the outdoors in. This not only saves energy but also creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Monochromatic Colorful Spaces

Get ready to embrace bold colors in 2024! As clients become more confident in expressing their personality through design, we'll see a departure from playing it safe. Think a deep green space painted from head to toe - trim, walls, ceiling - with a vintage green rug and green throw pillows. I’m forecasting monochromatic eclecticism will be a popular way to infuse color into spaces as a shift from the all-neutral trends of the past few years.

Smart Home Technology: Seamless Integration

The future is here, and it's smart! In 2024, home automation will continue to advance, offering us even more convenience and efficiency. From voice-activated assistants to integrated smart appliances, homeowners will have the ability to control their entire living environment at their fingertips (literally!). Imagine adjusting lighting, temperature, and music with a simple voice command or remotely managing security systems while you're away. Smart home technology will seamlessly integrate into our lives, making our homes not only stylish but also intelligent and intuitive.

Embracing Cultural Fusion

Designs inspired by cultures from around the world will continue to be popular. This could mean Moroccan-style rugs, Scandinavian minimalist furniture, or Japanese-inspired Zen spaces. This trend stems from the desire to celebrate diversity and create unique environments that reflect personal experiences and journeys. Clients now seek to infuse their homes with a blend of traditional, ethnic, and contemporary design elements from various corners of the globe.

As we’re talking about all the trends we expect to see in 2024, let’s look back on 2023. Check out 2023 Design Trends Wrapped to see the trends that were all over the design world this past year. Do you recognize any of them?

In order to make room for the new trends we need to say goodbye to some older trends.

(1) Faux Plants

  • Faux plants may be easy to care for, but they just don't have the same life and vibrancy as real ones. If you struggle with keeping plants alive, try low-maintenance options like succulents or snake plants.

(2) Too Much Gray

  • Gray has been a popular color choice for years now, but it's starting to feel a bit overused. Don't be afraid to experiment with other colors to create a more unique and vibrant space. We're not saying by any means that gray is a bad color but add some texture and depth into it!

(3) Fast Furniture

  • Do we even need to explain this one? Fast furniture, or cheaply made pieces meant to be replaced quickly, is not only bad for the environment but also lacks the quality and character of more durable options. It's time to invest in well-made, timeless pieces that will last. It may be convenient at the time but after just a couple months you’ll be right back at the store again.

Remember, don’t let trends design your home. Your home should reflect your personal style and needs. Don't be afraid to break the rules and create a space that truly feels like yours. Wishing you a wonderful start to 2024!
